Meet Pete

Dr. Peter C. Wilcox is the founder, and former director of the Severna Park Professional Counseling Center, Millersville, MD. Before retiring, he was a practicing psychotherapist and spiritual director for 30+ years.

Peter was also an Assistant Professor at the Washington Theological Union and President of the Faculty Senate, Adjunct Professor in the graduate program in pastoral counseling at Loyola University, Columbia, MD, and Adjunct Professor of theology, St. Bonaventure University, Olean, NY.

He lives with his wife, Margaret, in Aiken, South Carolina, USA.

Education

A graduate of St. Fidelis College, Butler, PA, Dr. Wilcox received a licentiate in theology from St. Paul University, Ottawa, Canada, and a doctorate in theology from The Catholic University of America, Washington, DC. He also received a master’s degree in social work from the University of Maryland.

Presentations

Over the years, Dr. Wilcox has directed many retreats and been in demand as a speaker. His retreats, conferences, seminars, and workshops on a wide variety of topics have helped many people find healing in their lives. Along with his academic knowledge in theology, spirituality, and psychology, he has become a popular speaker in the areas of contemporary spirituality and psychology. His primary areas of interest are in the blending of psychology and spiritual growth. In addition, his research focuses on the theology and spirituality of Thomas Merton, and the spiritual direction of Cardinal John Henry Newman based on Newman’s letters and diaries written during his Catholic period.
